frequently asked questions
Q: How many characters can I have?
A: You can have as many characters as you can reasonably handle. If your activity slips, you may consider dropping characters. You should note that activity will be a factor in regards to approving future applications.
Q: How often do I have to post?
A: We would like to see you posting once or twice a month per character. In saying that, we understand that real life happens and that it should always come first. If you're going to be away for an excess amount of time, we just ask that you post up a leave of absence. We will hold activity checks periodically and accounts that do not have an absence (or are found to be abusing the absence system) will be purged. Basically just keep admins up to date if you can't post for any reason! We're here for you.
Q: How strong can my character's abilities be?
A: This depends on the age of your character and how much they have practiced using their abilities. The sixteen year old with an ability to manipulate water is unlikely to be able to create tidal waves, where as the thirty year old with a lot of practice would be able to do such a thing. The same can be said of a twenty year old who practices all the time being more skilled than a thirty year old that tries not to use their abilities.
Q: I'm having a problem with another member, what should I do?
A: If you're having a problem with another member, try to resolve it! If you feel that the situation becomes hostile, or that you can't resolve it yourself, ask a staff member to mediate. We want to make the site enjoyable for everyone and that means maintaining the peace. Please note that if this problem consist of bullying, please inform a staff member immediately so that we can handle it.
Q: What is a trigger warning?
A: A trigger warning is a warning label that lets writers know this material contains sensitive material. Oftentimes we forget about things that might bring up bad memories for other people and this will just help to avoid that.
Q: Why can't I go in depth with sex/gore/drugs?
A: As per Proboards Terms of Service, under section 18 of Objectionable Content, we are not permitted to display such things on the board. Anything breaking this rule will be deleted and the member will be warned.
Q: Where can I go to get templates for my plot page/threads/tracker?
A: This is a question we get a lot! For Proboards in particular I prefer to use Adoxography, but other sites include Shadowplay and A Thousand Fireflies, and Caution.
Q: What kind of ability can my character have?
A: Here on Rebels & Mutineers, we have four types of characters available. Shapeshifters, skinwalkers, humans, and humans with abilities. In regards to humans, we don't have a list as we want you to be creative. However, it should be noted that abilities that involve other realms or turning into a creature of some sort are not allowed. We will also not allow connections to demons or deities, as that also brings in another realm. Shapeshifters may only take on the form of an animal that actually exists in this world. It is up to the discretion of the Administration team if something is too otherworldly to belong on the board.
Q: If my character's parents don't have abilities, how will they know where to go?
A: Abilities are hereditary, even if they skip a few generations. While abilities are currently kept very quiet, there are people stationed within each community - or at least within traveling distance - that can help parents with finding their kids a place to go. These are often people found in human resources and there are even some stationed as doctors for the people who think that's what their child needs. These people will help choose where a child needs to be based on what the parents, and the child, have told them.
